About Dr. Leder
After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class of 525 students on Long Island (a year after her brother did the same), Dr. Robin Ellen Leder attended Brown University, where she graduated with cum laude honors in Psychology (and minored in Theatre Arts). Upon completion of her studies at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York City, she received the degree of Doctor of Medicine, and continued her post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y. She is currently licensed to practice medicine in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Her long-standing interest in nutrition and orthomolecular psychiatry led her to accept a position at the Atkins Center in Manhattan in 1988. The doctor sat with Robert Atkins every afternoon, observing his brand of complementary medicine first hand for months, and attending regular discussion meetings at his home. This opportunity served Dr. Leder as an invaluable introduction to the office practice of complementary medicine.
Dr. Leder has since proceeded to practice holistic/nutritional medicine independently, always incorporating new ideas and innovative therapies into her patient care programs. For several years she practiced in a New York City internal medicine group. Then, in 1990, she took on a part-time practice in New Jersey devoted exclusively to holistic medicine. The practice moved to Hackensack in 1991 and eventually this became the doctor’s permanent and sole location. Through regular attendance at the teaching sessions of such national holistic professional associations as the American College for the Advancement of Medicine, the International College of Integrative Medicine, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American Holistic Medical Association, and Autism Research Institute, as well as numerous courses offered by independent nutritionally-trained speakers, nutrient manufacturers, and specialized medical laboratories, the doctor remains constantly abreast of the most current information in the ever-expanding field of complementary medicine. Dr. Leder has received recognition as Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology (formerly the American Board of Chelation Therapy). The doctor also attends meetings on advances in traditional psychiatry on a regular basis, and did a one year certificate course of psychoanalytical training.
During the her medical career, Dr. Leder has served as consulting physician to several weight loss centers and smoking cessation clinics. In addition to internal medicine, the doctor is trained in meditation, and is familiar with many programs within the self-awareness and recovery movements. Specifically, she was an avid pupil of Dr. Alexander Lowen, internationally-renowned founder of Bioenergetics, a powerful physically-based approach to psychiatry.
On a personal note, the doctor has been a professional pop/rock/jazz vocalist for most of her adult life. She is a lover of children, the elderly, cats, dancing, good jokes, the Honeymooners, ice cream (in moderation) and the ocean.
In her practice, Dr. Leder successfully integrates all elements of her background - medicine, nutrition, psychology, psychiatry, theatre arts, humor, etc. - to create a unique, multidimensional and highly individualized approach. Combining unparalleled years of experience, a deep fund of knowledge, innate insight and compassion and a wide range of innovative testing, Dr. Leder is able to deliver the ultimate holistic medical experience for her patients.
